If you’ve read some of our earlier case studies (we hope you really did!) you might have already noticed the tendency of socially-important projects being developed by Zapal.

It’s no chance of coincidence. Yeah, it was made on purpose.

We are the business, created in Ukraine, during the times, when the war was all around us. We couldn’t let ourselves create something just for money during usual, peaceful times, how could we not care about making an impact during the war, especially?

Zapal couldn’t. All we want to say shortly is that we care, we are here to make changes: by working with NGO’s and social projects, by working together for culture, communities and society, in general. We’re here to help meaningful businesses to grow, using the best technologies and customer-friendly, unique designs. Zapal’s here to make both, business and non-profit organizations distinguishing and successful, by what we do the best.

Businesses, we work with are also the changemakers on their market. From FinTech to Edtech & ClimateTech.

Zapal is here to unlock the tech future of each of them.

Well, so that was kinda long intro, let’s get to the point: our team has created the website for UNDP’s  Ukraine (UN Development programme in Ukraine) project “Defining Futures: People, Tech and Teams for mine-free Ukraine”.

In the next lines of text, we’re going to share some points about this project and the technical details of the website’s implementation.

UNDP

Wikipedia says: “The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP)  is a United Nations agency tasked with helping countries eliminate poverty and achieve sustainable economic growth and human development. The UNDP emphasizes on developing local capacity towards long-term self-sufficiency and prosperity.” 

This spring, UNDP Ukraine opened a photo exhibition "Defining Futures: People, teams and technologies for mine safety in Ukraine".

"This series of photos is dedicated to those whose mission and goal is to help make the territory of Ukraine safe and free of mines and unexploded ordnance again in various ways," @undpukraine wrote in their Instagram post.

Our team had the opportunity to create a website to represent the project in the online space. Everyone could also see the photo exhibition at the Museum of the History of Kyiv and on St. Sophia Square at

Sooooooo what about tech?..

Design system

Yeah, sorry, we know we’re more tech guys, still, design is also a vital part of our company, for sure. Let’s mention what was going on with the design.

Foremost, Zapal design didn’t do any UI/UX design for this project…

Yeah, sorry for disappointing you but as you might have already known such huge international organizations as UN have their own design system. So all we had to do is just follow it within both, and design and tech.

As law-abiding team we followed all the principles or the design system and best the design system check with the first attempt.

Honestly there is nothing more to add about design system because all you will see on their website like is their design system, what we can add is actually that it was really well described in a technical way.

So that's it with the design guys and let's move on to our tech team.

They've been waiting for that!!! As usually.

Tech team

We are literally in love, actually our tech team is in love with the difficult complex tech project to develop.

Yet this project wasn't more about the social sense, so for our tech team, all the interest was within that topic. As you might have guessed, this website wasn't full of complexity within the technology stack.

Actually, this project was a bit different from other our project with the point of the need of cooperation with other developers of the UNDP or over the world.

All we can say about this cooperation is that all the processes were built well, so the communications were smooth and easy going. 

Thus, after all we released the website on time including all needed to requirement within short terms and batting all the design and tech check's.

What's next?

All we want to say at the end of this story is that we really hope that UNDP and all the other organizations will keep creating such meaningful projects. We are always here to unlock their tag with what we do best.
